When Kishimoto heard that he felt Mikio wasted his time in this type of art. Then he asked his editor of Naruto, Kosuke Yahagi, to recruit Ikemoto as an assistant. Mikio accepted the offer as he was grateful that Naruto was what he wanted to work on. Ikemoto was Kishimoto’s youngest assistant in the early days of making Naruto.
In making Naruto, Mikio’s responsibilities included drawing crowds and background pictures that added white speed lines. In his free time, he also designs new characters. Kishimoto requested Ikemoto to design more characters and draw clones created by Naruto Uzumaki. In 2014, Shueisha asked Kishimoto to start a sequel but he rejected the idea.
Kishimoto told Ikemoto to draw based on his experience and advised him to not spoil his art style and make his own. Ikemoto is a shining and bright artist who makes every design unique. Many of his fans are inspired by his art style. Mikio gives his best in the making of manga. Ikemoto gives illustrations for the Boruto light novels. In 2017, the manga had one million copies in print. With this inspiration, Studio Pierrot produced an anime series.
